Starting a New Game, Post 1, Restoring the Spring Village
Comprehensive Guide by Freyashawk:
This is the first in a series of posts that will constitute a detailed Walkthrough.
Restoring the Spring Village:
I started a new game to minimise errors and maximise options as well as being able to write a guide. What I have decided is that 'make haste to repent at leisure' does apply to some extent. Your abilities do increase with use. I now believe even physical acts such as jumping may increase with better stats. I will try to test this when I return to more difficult dungeons.
I 'beat the game' fairly early but had much frustration with Blight and puzzles. I doubt there is any 'fix' where the puzzles are concerned aside from playing through more than once but I will be interested to discover if more skill nodes help me reach high places more easily, for example. Some Main Quests must be completed to unlock relationships with characters but others could be delayed to gain more skills.
2. Rescue Takumi. You meet Murasame for the first time. Ikaruga appears after the scene of the battle, observing from a distance.
3. Learn how to grow Crops and use Development Zones.
4. You will be asked to Build a House. The game is a little tricky here. First, talk to every one you encountered prior to this for a formal introduction. This places them in the Profile section of your Camp Menu. When I spoke to Takumi initially, however, there was no option to construct anything. I had to walk away a few times and circle back to get that option.
The Humble House costs 1000 Gold. After making and placing it, go to the Request Board to be given materials to make more Fields and 500 Gold.
You now see a Prompt to Rest but I suggest making more Fields and planting Turnip Seeds as well as the Potato, Cabbage and Onion Seeds you found, then going out in the Wilds to forage more and fight. Before doing that, go to the Skill Nodes Menu and increase skills with whatever nodes have been given.
You also should plant whatever seedlings you found. They can be removed or moved later but will yield products including Lumber when grown.
Monsters respawn daily in the Wilds. I defeated all of them, gaining Eggs and then made a number of Sweet Rolled Eggs because they require no seasoning.
I also defeated Mazuki again and gained skill nodes both in Weapons and Cooking for all these actions.
3 Spring: Quest to see Ulalaka who increased the Village Level to 3 giving me ability to hire villagers.
She then asked me to place 40 fields but I had done so. She gave me a Blacksmith Smithy Recipe and Mauro and Suzu told me a Blacksmith had been transformed into a Red Oni.
I instantly rescue the Blacksmith by defeating the Red Oni he became. When I retuen to the Village, he gives me an Otachi Longsword I never will use because my weapon of choice is a shortsword and shield of some kind. However, I go to the Caepenter who makes the Smithy, and pkace it. Murasame, Hina and Suzu collect to comment and Murasame gives m3 recipes as 'compensation' for bringing back the smith. Suzu declares she wants to give me a reward and makes it possible for me to interact with others in the form of Social Activities. The recipes from Murasame are Dull Sword, Practice Bow, Hide Pauldron, Ronin Hat and Cheap Bracelet, all of which are items equipped prior to this.
Sakaki gives me Decoration Recipes: Scarecrow and Torii Gate.
The quest now is to place them which I do. Stupidly, I shut down the game before completing this and failed to look at the Quest menu upon my return.
I speak to Ulalaka and she raises Level of Village to 4. Gives me Flower Cart, Saltern, spring Blossoms. Cooking Spot and Teahouse Recipes.
Supports 11 villagers, 12 buildings and 75 Decorations.
New Street Vendors are Bakery and Udon Carts, Marine Market and Ingredient Parlour. Iroha has new items.
When I returned to the game, I saw that my many Turnips had only 1 day before harcest now so I used my Drum to make thwm ready to be harvested now. I harvested all of them, planting more Turnip Seeds and whatever Cabbage Seeds I had and was able to purchase from Iroha.
The quest now was to place a total of 5 buildings in the development zone. I went to Takumi, built a Flower Cart and Daltern and placed both.
Every one gathers, and Mauro applauds. He wishes to rewars me for the joy he feels and tells me he will enable me to know my scenic score when any decorations are placed. I paid no attention to this whatsoever in my first game, but now will monitor it carefully as Village level increases unlock new options.
The little tutorial urges you to improve your score with new buildings, roads and decorations. It tells us to raise your score by placing items along roads or coordinating them with the seasons. It also declares that decorations that are part of a set raise points if they are placed together in a single development zone. So do not scatter them in different locations even in one Village.
Another tutorial teaches us about the Village Menu where your points are recorded and declares that completing village missions boosts points.
Currently, the Emu Plaques are:
1. Give some one a birthday gift
2. Perform the Dance of Bonds on a villager
3. Forge a Steel Sword
4. Relive a boss battle
I just completed the one to build and place a Saltern. Be aware that ordinarily you must accept a request or it will not count.
Knowing that Murasame's birthday is tomorrow on 4 Spring, I neexed to raise his Friendship Level. I found him in dront of the ahrine. Simply speaking to hum raised his Level to 2 and he declared: 'The more time we spend together, the more I want to know about you. Would you mind if I saw you more often?'
He remains at Level 2, however, even after our bond was strengthened with another chat and the Dance of Bonds.
Now you may wish to know that friendship is based on point totals. A gift of an item the character likes gives points but one the person loves gives more. I happen to know that Onigiri is one of Murasame's favourites.
I look at my Village status after hiring a villager to work at the Floqer Stall, biting ine of each type if flower seed, then making fields and placing them to plant these seeds. I go to Ulalaka as it shows 0 points are needed to raise the village to Level 5. She does this and I now can have:
Spring Stone Recipe
Request Board Recipe
Cherry Blossom Flag Recipe
Can construct new decorations
Now supports 15 Villagers
Now supports 16 buildings
Iroha'sTeahouse has new items
Blacksmith has new items
Now supports 90 decorations
New quest: Speak to Takumi
He now will fix the broken bridge, allowing you to cross to new area
I now actually can create a Party with 4 people if Friendship Level is 1 or higher. New additions in Camp Menu.
I actually can have a Party of 3.
Rhe bridge has been tepaired and we cross. Quest now to explore Guardian's Grove.
I obtain the Steel Sword, Iron Bow, Foot Soldier Pauldron and Tokin Headwear recipes almost at once from a red Wayside Shrine. To the right of the Shrine, a chest comtains Iron and Vanadinite needed to forge weapons.
I perform the Dance of Bonds at a Dragon statue nearby and save. I am at the Plateau Hill area.
Defeat a Wooly who actually is a Villager you thereby rescue and harvest Crops in a little plot to gain Onions and seeds. In front of an qbandoned house, a crate containing more seeds.
Perform the Dance of Bonds on a Frog atop a cart to obtain the Cart Recipe. A couple of trees need to be revived as well.
The one below the Frog should be Wisteria and give you a sapling at least. Sweep in front of the jizo shrine.
A group of three Frogs gives you the Bonito Flake Onigiri Recipe.
Rescue another villager transformed into an Oni. Speak to him to send him back to the village.
Ecploring further, a Tiger Scroll in a chest near a little arched bridge.
I nip back to the Village. I sell some Strong Horns, Strong Claws and Curse Clusters to make 2,500 Gold to forge a Steel Sword.
It was a Quest that gains me 3 Recovery Potions and 500 Gold at the Request Board.
I now have two new quests:
Upgrade a Weapon
Buy from a Peddlar in the Wild.
It is after 7.00 p.m. but I return to the Playeau Hill area.
Before doing so, I speak to Croakie as I have found 7 Frogs. He gives me:
Rice Crackers Recipe
Egg Bowl Recipe
We rescue another Villager who became a Monster.
We outrun a Colossal Oni in fqvour of finding another Frog who gives a Bucket Recipe.
I activate another Dragon Save Point next to a red Torii Gate. It is the Jixo Trio.
I decide to fight the Colossal Oni. It is difficult. I had to eat two Rolled Egg dishes... he knocks me off my feet and I wnd up near four plots where I gather Crops and seeds. I think they are Potatoes. It is almost 11.00 p.m. we explore a place wherematerials were stolen from the Village and find Lumber in a raised shed. A crate contains Napa Cabbage, Green Pepper and Tomato Seeds.
I find the Small Pond, aboiding for now an area with archers. The Frog gives me Curry Rice Recipe.
Time to go home...
I assess my progress.
I am at Level 10, Murasame, Mauro and Hina at Level 9.
We now have 8 villagers.
I was the one who harvested almost 140 Turnips by using the Drum to speed their growth so the Shipping Shed was empty! I ship enough goods to earn over 3000 Gold by morning, and plant the Wisteria, a couple of Elms and more Cherry Blossom saplings. I place the Stone Statue and Cherry Blosdpm Flag I had Takumi make earlier and go to bed.
4 Spring. A visit in the night with a reward from the Jizo Statues
Rice, Sticky Rice and Grilled Mochi Recipes.
Another villager came in the night. I had houses only for 8 so I imnediately went to Takumi to build a third Humble House.
Village Missions now are include defeating 100 Monsters, purify 75% of region, raise scenic score to 15,000, reach daily income of over 1000 Gold... these can be done. There are others that require time and opportunity including harvesting 2 types of giant crops and 1 Golden Crop.
Celebrating Murasame's Birthday is an option I choose and giving him Onigiri raises his Level to 3. He now will give me a birthday gift whwn the time arrives.
I go to the board and accept all the combat and trading requests. The new request is to buy from a vendor visiting the village.
Experience the firsr brief event with Murasame by going to his house before 9.00 a.m.
Simply speaking to Mauro raises him to Level 2. Cherry Blossoms make a great gift for him and most people.
Hina goes to Level 2 as well with the same gift.
I went to Jizo Trio after upgrading my Steel Sword. Cleaned the leaves from the three Jizo Statues by the red Torii gate. Took the path down the hill and Frog gave the Potato and the Egg Salad Recipes.
Used Drum Dance to restore trees.
Shot the first of Yoichi targets with my bow. He gave me Eggplant Seeds.
Approaching the Grove, a host of enemies and two archers. Reached the new Guardian's Grove Save point and saved.
There is a Cooking Fire here as well. If you have not done so, use it to organise your Storage and Inventory. Place anything you can eat in Inventory and everything else in storage. There is no access to Storage during combat and you may need something when you fight this Boss.
The Cursed Tree forced me to eat twice to restore some Energy. I may have been able to hang on regardless but do not like aeeing my Energy reduced significantly. Alsilo it is far better to use a bow from a distance with this one. Sadly I had not made a better bow and still had the Practice Bow but it sufficed. Victory raised my level to 14 and all members of my Party at 14 as well now.
Quest now is to ask Takumi to repair the Dragon Shrine.
Choose Repair Broken Buildings requiring 1 Guardian Timber, 20 Lumber, 10 Material Stone and no cost in Gold.
With the Shrine repaired Woolby shows you his true form for the first time.
Now you will be asked to restore all four Seasonal Villages and their gods.
You now will learn to fly on the White Dragon through the sky. Navigate and dismount in the Summer Village. Follow the gold pin!
Rwturning to Spring Village:
I retirned to the Wisteria I restored and pbtained Wisteria Flowers.
I found a hidden Frog up a hill near a little cemetary and obtained Water Pail Recipe.
A peddlar at Plateau Hill today sold Udon and other items. I bought it to complete the Quest.
Request on the board now are to defeat 5 Level 1 Buffamoos and learn the Flower Blessings Drum Skill that heals every one. The main quest is to wait for tomorrow in the newly visited Summer Village. I will deal with these requests before I go to bed.
As a matter of fact, I had the Skill and simply needed to return to the Board to obtain the rewards.
I forgot that Buffamoo are dayrime monsters, but I went down the hilk from Jizo Trio Ssve Point and activated a Frog behind a big rock for a Wooden Crate Recipe. Very close to that, under a tree, another Frog gave me an Iron Bracelet Recipe.
This places us in the sights of the Colossal Oni. I prefer to avoid him until I forge an Iron Bracelet. I either cqn go to the Blacksmith now or wait. Meanwhile, I restore two trees that are not withered but not fully grown either.
I nip back to the Blacksmith and ask him to forge the Iron Bracelet, Foot Soldier Pauldron and Iron Bow.
I went to Takumi and constructed Decorations which I then placed in the dev zone. Remwmberinh that I now had employees demandibg pay daily, I looked in the Shipping Bin and found norhing but one weed. I made a number of Rolled Eggs from the Eggs I had won in combat and shipped those.
I returned to Guardian's Grove and walked south to find a new Save Point at Small Pond so activated that.
I went down a hill further south to defeat a Wooly who was in fact another villager, then a little further to find a Frog who gace me the Roasted Tea Leaves and Relax Tea Recipes.
As it was almist midnight, I returned to the Summer Dragon Shrine to sleep.
