Courtship and Marriage to Clarice

This is my first experience of marriage to another girl.  I chose Clarice because she is an expert swordswoman and she loves animals. Our wedding was on 3 Soring, 23rd year.  She asked if I wanted a child on 8 Soring and at the Fateweaver Shrine, our prayers were answered at once and I chose gender and type.  We went home and planted the Turnip. On 13 Soring, Clarice and I went outside to see how enormous the turnip had become.  We promised them to greet it each day as a family.

If you stand up your date…

I always feel I need to do this, but it is hard because it seems so unkind. I now have logged 1400 hours in this file and have married more than once.  I split the file about a fortnight ago to marry Kai again in one fate and in the other, move forward with Clarice. Here is what happened in the Fate where I courted Clarice: As soon as I asked Clarice to meet me to go to the Fateweaver Shrine, I no longer had the option to invite any one except Clarice to the First Pilgrimage.  The date for the Fateweaver Visit was set for 2 Spring. I experienced the Pilgrimage with her and decided to miss the Fateweaver Date.  I went instead to the Open Pavilion and sat by the fire until 7 p.m. At that point, I found Clarice seated at Yachi’s.  She began by telling me I had to know what she was going to say.  I responded that I was sorry and she pushed me to promise I never would do it again.  To my surprise, she then invited me to have dinner with her.  After that, a...

Random Conversations in Guardians of Azuma

Image
Even the conversation of shopkeepers and other Villagers can be full of surprises... This was how the day began... I have developed quite a relationship with the old man, Kazuhiko, who runs the Summer Soothing Waves Izakaya: He shares his aches and pains and all of his feelings with me now.   I put an old man in charge of the Chemist on the summer High Street:  Pardon me.  I learned a little chemistry in my day!’  Then:  First you take this, and add that.  Turned out well!’ Old man in charge of the General Store in Winter:  What a beautiful day.  Truly a blessing from the gods. The amount of detail in this game is incredible.  It really is a tour de force.  Adding some one to your party adds dialogue during combat.  During fishing, entirely different comments are experienced. Kai: 'Enough waiting.  Can't I just grab 'em with my bare hands?   Murasame: Victory belongs to me toda...

Ongoing Questions and Mysteries

First of all, these are all ongoing in a file where I have reached Level 177 and am about to marry for the seventh time.  I therefore have completed most of the goals both of the game and my own. Very recently, I converted all remaining villagers who were farmers into taking other jobs.  Absolutely NO ONE other than myself now tends the fields.  No seeds should be planted other than those I plant and nothing harvested unless I do it.  However, I find those everlasting Strawberries planted newly in Spring and empty plots randomly in the morning in the three villages that still have small field areas. I have harvested plenty of Level 9 crops and flowers now.  I have harvested giant Crops from all crop seeds apart from two.  There have been no Giant crops for Corn or Pink Melon EVER to date.  Now, who is planting and harvesting.  Sadly, this mystery farmer NEVER waters a single field. Next question: Why do crops I have watered but not harvested with...

Grasses, Bamboo Shoots and Oni and Bear Topplers

I now have been married a number of times and played through at least a dozen games to the point of having multiple Fates.  Now going through yet another courtship of Kai because I really respond to him still and even get a bit dizzy when he tell me he loves me. What I am logging now are the areas where specific items are found. Forgotten Grove: Medicinal Herb Orange *   *Found one on a high knoll but you need to use the parasol to soar from one to another to reach it. Yellow Green Purple Blue Bamboo Shoots 16th There are Umbrellas enemies here in the form of Bold Bumbleshoots And Lantern Spectres for Ema requests  Areas where you can obtain Catalysts and the monsters that drop them. The bestiary does not even include any quality of Catalyst!  It show Curse Clusters in error. Monsters who drop Catalysts should include: Killer Bee, Giant Hornet, Glowering Camp, Earth Spider, Paranormal Parasol, Accursed Eye Paranormal Parasol drops Catalysts as follows:   Curse ...

Experiencing the Snow Festival with Every one

This is a strategy that can be employed with respect to every festival but only if you are unmarried!  If you are married, you have two choices: to attend with your spouse or attend it alone. With respect to all of the festivals, although Woolby will announce the event theee days prior to it and suggest you bring some one special or that it is no fun attending it alone, in fact you can wait until the actual day of the festival before you invite any one.  Incidentally, three days prior to it, eligible candidates if bonding levels are high enough, may invite you to attend the event.  You can decline the invitation without any permanent effect.  Some one whose invitation is rejected still will accept if you make an invitation closer to the event. I am experiebcibg a new Fate in one file and will propose (again!) to Kai when the Plum Tree matures in a couple of days.  Meanwhile, the day of the Snow Festival has arrived.  I decided it might be fun to experience...

Traditional Japanese Festivals

Image
The creators of Guardians of Azuma expressed a wish to invest the game with as many of the traditions of Japan as possible. Japan of course has diverse spiritual as well as mundane cultures and each has had its own special influence through the centuries but the Japanese managed to create a very unique synthesis finally between some of its native religions and beliefs rather than continuing to perceive other belief systems as a hostile or corrupting threat.   I am not an expert in Shinto beliefs but I studied and taught comparative religion and legends and to me, Guardians of Azuma enshrines Shintoism far more than any other belief system.  Although Buddhism has played a large part in shaping the culture and aesthetics of religious art and rituals, the animism that is so much a part of  Shinto beliefs is very apparent the world of Guardians of Azuma.  Thus, the reverence shown to Ulalaka’s sacred cherry tree that is displayed at the very beginning of this game and t...
