Little Onigiri, Archery, Frog Statues, Fishing et alia

There are secondary quests in the game.  I completed some of these before I committed myself to the project of creating a guide, but will add all of the details as time permits.

Furthermore, this is my personal gqme journal, not a polished guide.  From this and other posts, a guide will be created.

In some ways, this is a window into errors I made, although there are few errors possible, so really they are records od carelessness, impatience and a natural result of having too many game files.

When I see the Frogs I missed, and cannot imagine why, I realise after consideration that it is because I had not missed them at all originally but by loading a different file, some results became 'lost' because they no longer had occurred.

Personal Quests:
I think that completing all personal quests constitutes a subsidiary goal.  A word of warning here:  there is a limit to the number you can accept at any point in time.  They appear to alternate between requests for specific cooked dishes and requests to defeat specific enemies or catch specific fish.  The enemies you must defeat are level specific as well.  I am having a difficult time now finding enemies that are Level 80 or above and those are requested now both on the Emu Board and by individuals.

Onigiri Rolling
**************

One subsidiary quest is sending the right type of Onigiri down the hole when requested.

Autumn is Salmon Onigiri.
Large Basket contains:
Cookies Recipe
Sweet Potato of the Ages Recipe
Mysterious Fur x 10.

Winter is Tempura Onigiri.

Large Basket contains:

Hamburg Sandwich Recipe
Grilled Corn Recipe
Sapphire

The Large and Small Baskets hold the same recipes.  Only the item differs.

Final Gift: Onigiri Replica
This is a Decoration that cqn be placed in any deveopmemt area but you cannot construct duplicates.

Croakie and Frog Statues
**************************

Croakie is a boy who will give you recipes as rewards for finding and activating Frog Statues.  My Quest menu gives the total as 204.  I have not found all of them yet.

Playing more than one game or file can cause you to miss Frogs, having activated them in amother game.  Always look at the Map of every Island or place you hqve visited to see if any were ignored.

One fact that I missed for a long time: any Frogs you can see on the Map are Frogs you have NOT activated yet!

I now have found 150 Frogs.  My reward:
Eerie Torii Gate Recipe
Crab Fried Rice
Snapper Sashimi
Seared Bonito

Now the demand is 170.

One Frog I had not found yet in Summer.  I warped to the Outer Isle red Summer Torii Gate and then glided to the next outcrop of rocks.  I had found myself earlier below this altitude, trying to float up a current to a place with a circle of stone lanterns in vain.  I looked for my 'footprints' om the map and went to the same area above them.  I found the current, this time using it to drift down until I could jump to that lantern circle.  Here was the Frog, who gave some sort of Smoothie and also Prelude of Love Recipe.

So on to the place on the beach where we early on saw a current rushing upward from a round stone.  I choose 'Inspect', then employ the parasol to drift upwards, spying a Frog higher with a jar offering of wheat sheaves.  I get a recipe here for French Toast.

There is a Frog somewhere north of the Waterfront Walkway and two on a high peninsula south of the Beach.

I reached the one north of the Walkway by floating across from the secret Hot Spring and tgen going through a little open cave, climbing across fallen branches and up rocks.  It is annoying to find my Party members there before me!  It gave me the Ice Cream Recipe.

After obtaining the Ice Cream Recipe, I was able to cook with Fubuki to make his Marbled Ice Cream.  I catch myself wiahing some of these dishes were real!

Isolated Isle.
There is a Frog on the other side of a high bamboo fence.  Just stand in front of ir and activate through the fence to receive the Veggieblade Recipe

There is a little fishing area there with a waterfall.  Look at the position of the Frog on the map.  Cross the water and go behind the rocks for a Frog with Marinated Octopus Recipe.

Near the Wayside Shrine, go past the fishing pool and stay high among the trees to find a Frog with Apple Pie Recipe .

Go down a stone tunnel to its end (near the Bear) to find a Frog with Stone Pillar Recipe.

Where the archer platforms are, I jumped onto the low wooden fence, then leapt up onto a grassy place to find the Frog with Soup Dumpluling Soup and Meat Dumplings Recipes

There are three still in the Winter Wilds.  Go northeast from Undervround Wayside Shrine Save Point. Jump down the cliff and use overhanging rocks to lower yourself further for a Frog carrying a baby Frog who gives Seafood Bowl and Seafood Salad Recipes.

High on a cliff in the Abandoned Village area, a Frog that gives Salmon Sashimi and Squid Sashimi Recipes.

I forgot there were more Frogs in the Heavenly Realm I had not activated.  I was there to coax Kanata out of hiding after our disastrous date and saw the Frogs still on the Map.

Remember always to equip the Sacred Staff.  I found some paths in the air that led to a chest that contained a Sapphire.  A similar path to the right leads to another chest containing a Rune Crystal.

I used the staff to see two large platforms in the water, then parasol to leap across the gap between them.  In a new building, a lovely little garden with a Daruma.  The Frog was behind it but it could not be reached from the building.  I leapt out the window diagonally to a narrow platform against the wall.  Leapt to another, then one with a chest containing a Lion Scroll.  Turning, I saw a closed Lotus Flower.  I used the Drum Dance to open it, parasol I think to leap to where I could open another, then to a narrrow step to enter the building to activate the Frog.  It gave me a Shogi Hut Decoration Recipe.

On the Fishing Isle, Frog with Ginger Stir-Fry Recipe.

Went to the unnamed Island in Summer to activate a Frog ignored before for Potato Croquette and Veggie Croquettes Recipes.  I forgot one could simply wade across the water!

The last Frog I need in this area is on another high outcrop.  A Tengu is nearby on a high rock.  I simply walked round the little island until I found the wind vent, then spared upward.  The Frog gave a Tofu Hamburg Steak Recipe.

With these Frogs, I have reached a total of 170 abd Croakie gives me:
Snow Wolf Doll Recipe
Zweibelkuchen Recipe
Mochi Cheese Gratin Recipe

Here is where I am very aware once more of the need to experience ALL events.  The Zweibelkuchen is the 'Happiness Cake' that Clarice introduced in one of her Events.

I found a Frog on the Sumner Kagura Shrine that I had not activated.  It gave a Badlands Battle Axe Recipe.

At Winter Kagura, a Frog gives me Floating Island Lantern Recipe.

On the Island with Frostfang Cavern outside the dungeon itself, high on a rocky area is a Frog that gives you the Ring of Winter Recipe.

There were three I missed in the Underworld because I was upset I lost Kai and reverted to an earlier file where I could avoid that event until I was ready.

In an alley, a Frog gives you Samurai's Proof Recipe

In another alley near the place where you activate the fans, a Modern Streetlamp Recipe.

I actually had not destroyed a Purple Blight near the streetcars.  Activated the Fan, drifted up to use the Fan Dance again on the blight.  This Frog is tricky.  Jump up to a place where you must use the Mask and find the Frog behind it in a little narrow space.  It gives you an Oni Lantern of Fury Recipe and an Oni Lamp of Sorrow Recipe.

The last Autumn Frog is directly above the Riverside Bridge Area Save Point.  There is an air vent near the place where Clarice's group once camped.  Take it upwards towards the left, not the right to reach this Frog who gives Roasted Sweet Potato Recipe.

On the Island Fortress, a Frog gives Miso-Glazed Tofu Recipe.

There is also a Jizo Shrine.

There is a huge Frog outside the entrance to the Palace of Serendipity on a lower area that gives Invinciroid Recipe.

I finally went to the Fateweaver Island and saved near the place where the Dragon lands.

There is a Wayside Shrine that gave me the Blossom Blade Recipe, Lovely Toy Hamner Recipe, Plum Blades Recipe, and Cupid's Bow Recipe.

A Frog behind the Temple gave me the Holy Union Talismans Recipe.

This marriage concept is becoming serious now.

Fishing:
********

Fish serve a variety of functions.  Characters will request specific fish.  Watarase has a journal that dovuments all the fish you have caught and gives rewards in the form of recipes for achieving milestones.

Fubuki requests 2 Taimen.  I caught them finally on a rainy evening at the river in the Autumn Wilds, saving at Remote Shrine.  Caught 3 Taimen, 3 Rare Cans and 1 Ancient Fish.

Rare fish appear to be more likely in rain and after sunset.

On a rainy day on Isolated Island, I caught:
Girella
Snapper
Bonito
Blowfish

At the pier near the airship:
Seerfish
Marlin
Swordtip Squid
Snapper
Alfonsino
Yellowtail
Bonito

After dark:
Cutlassfish

Sage of Sweets Island
Sunny Day
Caught
Cutlassfish
Yellowtail
Mackerel
Girella and other common fish

I cannot, for the life of me, catch the Flounder Subaru requested.

Tri Shell Eastern Island:

All sorts, no Flounder yet

Throbby Snapper
Glitter Snapper
Abalone
Red King Crab
Spear Squid
Golden Salmon
Golden Octopus

Drop down to a small place with a building on stilts for four plots with Golden Crops

Caught Sunfish and Sole and Golden Salmon on Fishing Island

I found a fishing spot on the Isle of Fog but caught only
Girella
Sardine
Snapper
Alfonsino

It is evident now no distinction exists between freshwater and seawater at the Islands in the Sky.

One of the Winter Village Missions is to hold a contest.  Both Winter Contests involve fishing.

I now have caught 34 types of fish.

Watarase suggests I use a better fishing rod.  I now have the best one.  I try to confirm that by going to Zaza.  There is no option where tools are concerned.  Yet, that meant nothing.  When I had caught 42 varieties of fish, he gave me the Recipe for the Seafarer's Fishing Rod.

Cooking with Others:
**********************

Cooking with Some one is an early Board Request.

This to me is one of the most charming options in the game.  The variations each individual makes is linked to a special trait.

Fubuki:  From Salmon Sashimi, makes Frost Flowers

Being able to complete it depends on two factors:

1. Having the basic recipe needed to create the unique variation and
2.  Having a sufficient frienfship level with the character who has the ability to vary the recipe

Mixed Juice with Cuilang makes Energy Charger

Sage of Sweets
****************

It took forever for me to find the Frog wirh the Glazed Sweet Potato Recipe.  I submitted the Level 2 dish and was awarded the folliwing Recipes:
Castella Cake
Baked Apple
Strawberry Mochi
Honey Castella Cake

After receiving the Recipe, I saw I could make Castella Cake with Kusatsu to create:
Ephemeral Castella

He now wants Honey Castella

Badge of Professional Confectioner

Received Tri Colour Dango Recipe
Peach Tea
Shortcake
Mocha Cookies

Now demands Level 3 Strawberry Milk

Receive Badge of Master Confectioner

Gives me:
Honey Flan Recipe
Fruit Sandwich Recipe
Chocolate Cake Recipe
Melon Milk Recipe

Now demands a Level 4 Tri-Colour Dango

This is the final challenge.  You receive the Grand Master Confectioner Badge
The Previous Ladle
Anmitsu Cream Jelly Recipe
Chocolate Flan Recipe
Cream Mochi Recipe

And last but not least, you discover the identity of the Sage of Sweets

Farming, Flowers and Golden Crops
*****************************

Veterans of the series will recognise the Emery Flower (once extremely elusive) and the Golden Crops.

Now they are easier to find and grow, but they remain special.

The Emery Flower Seeds are added to the flower stalls aftwr experiencing Ulalaka's events with respect to Monster encroachment in the Village.  Sakaki's crops have been ruined and through a series of events, she determines that barriers comprised of special white flowers will act to repel them.

Gold Crops first may be found either in the Wilds or offered by a wandering trader.  Buy them whenever you find them offered.

You can upgrade the Golden Crops, as with any Crop, by using the Divine Sword to harvest them instead of harvesting in the ordinary way.  There is only a chance that this will yield a higher level of seed, but keep at it.

They are needed for specific recipes, and are included in Village level upgrade requirements.

Clarice may give you a Giant Golden Cabbage in return for a gift of one of her favourites.  A request by Kanata will reward you with Gold Cabbage Seeds.
(Kanata Request 15)

Islands in the Sky:

Dual Shell Island has four plots with Golden Cabbages at the same place as the Night Mare

A Frog in the middle of Dual Shell Island with Smelling Salts Recipe

I discovered I had ignored two Frogd at Gale Pass Ialand.

Go up to the right from the Save point:

Frog gives Gravestone Recipe and Acutomass Recipe.

The other Frog only can be reached if you dismount from the Dragon.  It is a little tricky.  There are two energy platforms but only one is activated and took me to a place under a parasol with no real destination.

The Frog gives a BLT Sandwich  Recipe

There is a little triple Jizo Shrine to clean as well.

I missed one in the Fleeting Flower Village.

It is easy to miss somehow as it is slightly elevated but perfectly easy to reach once you see it.

Gave Protein Stir Fry Recipe
Protein Bowl Recipe

I activated a Frog at the unnamed Summer Island and obtained Porato Croquettes Recipe.  Evidently I had been there before but been careless.

Yoichi Targets:

There are four at the Old Village.  I do not know the history of that place yet... probably unfolds after marriage!

Note that the sign on the path  in the Spring wilds near the Small Pond and Jizo Trio refers to Yoichi targets, not the Oni Archers on their platforms!

Level 10 Village:
All I lacked was 100 decorations.  The imperative is to CONSTRUCT 100 different kinds, not simply have the Recipes.  I reached Level 10 in Spring, Autumn and Winter simultaneously.  I still need more flowers harvested in Summer.
