Random Conversations in Guardians of Azuma

Even the conversation of shopkeepers and other Villagers can be full of surprises...

This was how the day began...

I have developed quite a relationship with the old man, Kazuhiko, who runs the Summer Soothing Waves Izakaya:

He shares his aches and pains and all of his feelings with me now.
The amount of detail in this game is incredible.  It really is a tour de force.  Adding some one to your party adds dialogue during combat.  During fishing, entirely different comments are experienced.

Kai: 'Enough waiting.  Can't I just grab 'em with my bare hands?

Murasame: Victory belongs to me today, my fine fishy friends!'

Kurama, when you load the game: 'There you are. Every one's excited to see you... but take your time.'

At low Level even after you first begin to interacrt and can include him in your Party,
Kai may say:  Looking pretty rough there, Chief!  Need a shoulder to lean on?

Put Kurama next to Matsuri:

Kurama:  Hey, I remain 'Goated'
Matsuri:  What does Goated mean?
Kueana:  Why, the 'greatest of all time'!
Matsuri: No, unhnu.  I'm the only 'goat' here, nerd!

When Fubuki is in your Party, sotto voce:

'Almost there... almost done with this awful battle...'

Kai and Matsuri;

Matsuri:  Hey oni!  Race you to that tree over there!
Kai:  Hell, yeah!  You're on!

Kai: Getting even stronger!
Matsuri: Yeah yeah.  Maybe someday you'll even catch up to me, huh?

You never know when a new mini-event will load.  Often a new interaction will come with a little event.  Taking some one to Yachiyo's often will trigger a brief event.

Going to the waterfall will result in addong a bathing costime for the individual to your wardrobe and you can change their clothing unilaterally if you wish.  Marrying some one adds the wedding attire to their wardrobe.  There are the Rune Factory 4 outfits for those who featured in that game.

As far as clothing options are concerned, once added, they remain.  I had Kai in his wedding attire when I started a new fate.  He remained in that outfit despite the fact that we no longer were married in the new fate.

Dialogue between Subaru and Murasame:

Subaru: Murasame, how far do you think we can possibly travel in this world?

Murasame:  As far as we desire.  Imagination is our only boundary.   Only when we close off our minds do we bar our own path.  Self-actualisation forms the basis of the swordsman's path.  Nothing can stand in your way when you put your mind to it.  That is the core tenet of the Munen Muso style.

Subaru:  So long as I put my mind to it... I won't forget what you've told me any time soon.

It is interesting to see the contrast between Subaru and my own character in terms of Murasame's role here.  He speaks of me always as though I am his teacher.  With Subaru, he is the master.  If Subaru were the Earth Dancer, however...

This is very sweet of Murasame when both he and Suzu are in your Party:

Stay back and offer support, Lady Suzu.  Leave the fighting to me!

Whwn cooking:
Kurama: Behold, my ultimate culinary creation!  This is what happens when I allocate all of my skill points to ingenuity!

Subaru at night on the High Street of Summer:  Hey, it's you.  I was just doing a little stargazing.  Would you like to join me?

Tsubame when fighting enemies:  Money makes the world go round.  Sorry you couldn't afford the bill!

Kai for puzzle:  Hey, not bad!  Not bad.  Might have taken me a little longer to figure out, but just a little.

Tsubame:  Any one who disrupts my business gets no mercy!

Phew, I worked up a sweat!  Can't wait to get home and take a hot bath!

Watarase chat:  The way Murasame casts his line is so graceful!  I wonder if it's thanks to all his sword practice.

And there is a wealth of chat ABOUT Watarase.

Takumi when you add him to your Party:
Construction, destruction, renovations, repairs.  Just leave anything to me!

Hisui is very unkind to Mauro in one of the events when you ask about the location of the Shrines.  And here again it is obvious she has little patience with his enthusiasm.  One would have thought actual admiration of her stock and calling it 'treasure' would be encouraged but she shoos him away!
The relationship between Hisui and Mauro is very interesting.  It is Mauro who poses this question:

Kusatsu in a poetic mood:
Watarase in combat:

Hook, line and sinker!

Just like fish in a barrel!

We've got them on the ropes.  Just a little more and they're sunk.

Right!  Gotta stay as flexible as a fish.  A one, a two...

Look's like we're up against some small fry...this'll be a snap!  Yep!

Hey, you found something.  You know I'm only interested in fishing, so it's all yours.

Let's ride this wave until the very end.

If you actually take him fishing:

Watarase whistles, then:  What fish will I meet today?

When you catch one:
Watarase:  that's what I've been waitin' for!  Finally face-to-face with the fish!

Against the Cursed Tree, as I stand back and watch:

Watarase: Right on the mark!
Get schooled!

Against othet enemies:

Now reel 'em in!

Another step closer to fishdom!

Fighting's not my strong suit, but I'll put it all on the line for fish everywhere!

Old man blacksmith named Rokuzaemon:
Ah, it's just you.  For a moment, I thought it was a monster.

Welcome. Everything here is my finest work.

Just a little polish, and this should sparkle like new.

Anything this old man can help you with?

Let's see...You need this old man's help?  Well, well, looks like I still have it in me.

Hisui:
Just be sure to stay on your toes.  Picking a fight with me only proves your ignorance.

Tsubame:  Greed is good.  That's the merchant's way.

Spme one yawns and says: So bored.

Tsubame:  You never know what an enemy will do when cornered.  Stay alert.

Tsubame: I never let a custoner out of my sight!

Now I'll bring even more business into town.

Hisui:  Impressive.  Now it's my turn.

Tsubame:  Money makes the world go round.  Sorry you couldn't afford the bill.

Hisui:  Hohoho.  No future shall escape my notice.

Tsubame:  Nice.  True strength is priceless.

Phew.  I worked up a sweat.  Can't wait to head home and take a hot bath.

Don't let your guard down just because they're weak.

Hisui: One more push should finish this.

Tsubame: Now that is one hell of a move.

Kurama:  Ah, a sanctuary. The perfect chance for a well-earned reapite.

Kurama: The enemy approaches.  Stay sharp.

Hisui:  it's a terrible omen.

Hisui:  This victory was foretold, naturally.

Tsubame:  Step right up and feast your eyes.

I put Sakaki as my second and Hisui as my third.

Sakaki:  I hate battling weaklings... but we have little choice

Sakaki:   Endure!   Know your place!

Hisui:  Grave misfortune awaits you!  This victory was foretold, naturally.

Sajaki:  Perhaps I should get this old body up and moving more.

I take every one fishing on the Isle of Fog:
Sakaki:  Ooh. Ahh.  My back is killing me!  (Why now???)

Then he gets into it:
Now then,  I wonder what I'll catch.  I'm the very image of patience.  Let's take it slow.

Then: Oho!  I've caught a lively one.

Meanwhile, the old woman Hisui now is groaning.

Sakaki:  Fight with all your might!  I'll cover your back.

Sakaki:  Behold!  My ninja arts!

We've almost done it.  Don't let up!

Phew!  That took some effort.

Sakaki: Ah!  A treasure chest!  How thrilling!  The sight alone awakens my inner child.

Endure!

Shall we make a camp here?  Watching the fire dance will warm our weary souls.

Hisui: My wits will grow dull if I simply sit and watch the shop all day.  I need to stay active.

Fubuki in combat:
A deity like myself must become ever stronger.

'Almost there... we're almost done with this awful battle.'

'T-Time for a Victory cry... Awooo!'

I hit its weak spot.  Did you see that?!
(Ironically when we were reliving a battle with his twin)

I've gained new power!  With this, I can do even more!

They've calmed down ... but they're still raring for a fight.  We must see this through to the very end.

Face the brunt of Winter's wrath!

Did you find something?  It must be a gift from the gods.  Use it wisely.

I may waver, but I never lose my way.

I have no choice but to fight.

Murasame: 'Seems youv'e found something.  Hopefully, it proves useful.

Taste my blade!
I'll cut you down!

I can't let myself get drunk off a single victory.  I'm something of a lightweight after all.

Strike first.  Ask questions later.

In the Autumn Village:

Tsubame: Something about this place reminds me of home.  Maybe it's the way the wind lifts the wings of birds setting off to migrate.

Loading game:

Watarase:  Another fine day to ho out and save our fishy friends!  (And yet he eats them!)

Kamurosaki:

Clarice often speaks of her desire to atone and how she wishes to do what she can to make amends to Fubuki, but I never heard this before:
In the Spring Village as the sun begins to set:

Clarice:  Is it this late already?  But thanks to every one here, it was a good day!

Greetings:

Mauro: Seeing your face first thing in the morning tells me that today will be wonderful!

Fubuki with Clarice:

Fubuki:  Another foe?  I wish we didn’t have to fight.
Clarice:    Hesitation leads to death.  If you feel uncertain, then allow me to handle this.
Fubuki:  No, I have people I must protect!  Clarice, please lend me your strength!

The strangest interactions between Clarice and Fubuki have to do with his canine nature:

I missed the beginning of this interaction the first time round.  It makes mores sense now.
Clarice:  We won.  What a fight.  Phew, I feel a bit warm…
Fubuki: *sniff sniff*. Hmm. every one seems to have worked up a sweat, so why don’t we take a quick rest?
Clarice:  (Bad dog!  Bad dog!). F-Fubuki?!  You can’t just … sniff people like that!  Bad dog!
Fubuki:  Ah!  Um, er… Forgive me.  That was an insensitive thing to say…

And another:

This one shows how positively Clarice responds to his animal nature.  After all, she is the girl who responded to Woolies more than to humans initially.

More between Clarice and Fubuki:

Something like we will do this and then go that way…

Fubuki:  you always plan ahead, don’t you?

Clarice:  I just feel uneasy if I haven’t ironed out all the details in advance.

Another:
Fubuki yawns:  it’s so wonderfully sunny today.  Sorry, I  was in a bit of a daze.

With my level increase Fubuki only says: I see you’ve improved yet again.

Kai would be so much more enthusiastic telling me ‘I can’t wait to see you reach the top!’

There is another dialogue where Fubuki says he loves wide open spaces.  Clarice remarks that seeing his glorious tail makes her want to give him a big hug, then hastily says:  Ah! Never mind.

What your spouse mutters when asleep:

Mauro:  Hard… Starboard.

Kai:  Mercy, Yachi!

Greetings in Villages:

Tsubame:  Good morning.  Sleep well?  Let’s rise and shine.’

Landing on a sky island:
Clarice:  Where shall we go today?  I’ll follow wherever you lead.

Kai at night:

I love the sun and all, but a moonlit stroll is its own kind of fun
