Sourcing Rare Materials
Among these are White Dragon Fur and Black Dragon Scales.
Wherever you find a turning Orb, you can choose 'Inspect' and then relive a battle you have fought and won.
Thr Spring Kagura Shrine is the location where you can access your battle with the Black Dragon. Defeating her again will give you White Dragon Fur and Black Dragon Scales. These both are used for the following:
There are other rare items that actually can be found at an earlier stage of the game although you may not have the Recipes until later. These are the rare Mushrooms known as the Bear Toppler and the Oni Toppler.
They are used to create these Accessories:
The ability to meet and interact with the Professor to identify Mushrooms is unlocked very early when the gates to the Autumn Fields open. Without an appraisal, Mushrooms you collect will remain Mystery Mushrooms, quite useless! Once appraised, they will be identified instantly in your Inventory.
You may wonder why, at Level 165 with all Skill Nodes acquired for every Sacred Treasure as well as the Short Sword, I need any upgrades for these fine items. It is for the very last Trials. When I tested the first Trial, I did not die, but did not complete it either. I used far too many resources to replenish health and energy and the fight was peoving to be a long, protracted one. I would prefer to increase my Level now and return later. The beauty of any Rune Factory is the multi-faceted nature of the game. There is always plenty to do.
There are two different ways to obtain rare items. One is through combat. The other is by gift exchange.
For example, Hisui might give you a Skull in return for a gift given to her.
Clarice tends to give Giant Gold Crops or Large Fur.
All characters after they reach about Level 13 with you will give one of the two dishes they can cook with you when they reach new levels.
Another situation is requiring a lesser form of item than one receives if one goes through the highest level of dungeon. I usually go to the Forest of Endings now for Ema Quests but many stubbornly continue to demand Exquisite level materials or their equivalent for trades. The Fleeting Flower level is a good one for all Exquisite items including:
Exquisite Catalyst
Exquisite Fabric
Exquisite Claw
Exquisite Talon
Exquisite Fur
Exquisite Fang
Exquisite Pauldron
Fleeting Flower has some interesting Monsters including Mystic Neko and Kincho Tanuki. Both make interesting inhabitants of your barn. The Kincho Tanuki loves to transform. All the Neko varieties are quite beautiful and play music.
Tamed a Kincho Tanuki with Green Dango after it refused Exquisite Fabric.
Frostfang Cavern gives Quality level items more frequently but the denizens of Goldblossom Mines will give you Exquisite Trophies.
Exquisite Horn
Exquisite Claw
Exquisite Fabric
Exquisite Thread
Exquisite Catalyst
The Blue Oni in Goldblossom Mines is a good addition to a Barn. Even though I have been through the Forest of Endings almost daily , Ema Board Quests still ask for Exquisite Items. I gave him Quality Cloth and he accepted. Again refused Quality Claw.
I befriended a Yaksha Spider with Quality Thread and took on a second Blue Oni. The new Barn is full. I hope I have at least three occupants who will give Exquisite items regularly.
The following are not rare, but it can be useful to know:
Sunrise Island:
Strong and Quality items defeating mainly Onis of various types:
Strong Claw
Strong Horn
Etc
Ema Plaques to defeat specific Momsters are loaded daily. I thought it might be helpful to list locations. These are very high level monsters so most will be found only in the Forest of Endings:

Other frequent requests require the defeat of Buffalo and defeat of Onis as well as defeat of Lanterns. The totals usually are 3 or 5.
For the Horse Request:
You will find two on Level 4 of the FoE.
For the Wisp Hunt:
The long corridors in the Dragon’s Tomb have more than you will need to complete this Request.
For the Oni Hunt:
I go to the Dragon’s Tomb for a quick completion of both the Oni and Colossal Oni Requests.
Level 3 and f the FoE has a number of Wisps as well as at least one Parasol and a couple of Lanterns, but not enough of them to complete a Request that requires 5.
I have discovered that the various Nekos are unique in their acceptance or rejection of gifts. Today, the first Mystic Neko encountered in the Fleeting Flower area accepted a Quality Claw after rejecting two other items.
