Most Favourite Gifts for Children in Guardians of Azuma

I play the English’s version of the game and despite decades of experiences with Harvest Moon and rune Factory, never learned Japanese.  For my printed game guide, they wanted to send me the Japanese guide, telling me many writers simply translated and then copied the information.  I said it never was my way to use information I had not collected myself and sadly was not fluent in Japanese.

Although it may be far too late for me, I joined a social media group that is for people who intend to teach themselves Japanese.

As soon as I joined, I saw a photograph that included some of the default names of the children you can have in the game.  Some of them have simple universal meanings in Japanese, and are good to learn:

Sora: Sky

Umi: Sea

Riku:  Shore or land

Hana: Flower

Tsuyu:  Rainy season in Japan, Dew

Sayo: adding colour

When I looked up the names myself, there were many different meanings for some of them.  I will do more research.

Note that by using the Orb at the Fateweaver Shrine, you can marry repeatedly and have two children with each new Fate.

You actually can marry the same partner more than once and in theory, have all six children with the same character in consecutive lives or Fates.

The first child always has your hair colour and your spouse’s eye colour.  The second child will have your spouse’s hair colour and any distinguishing attributes like horns or animal ears with your eye colour.

The appearance and personality are linked.  Hair style is determined by personality.  Even if a boy and a girl share the same personality traits, their actual responses as well as the dishes they make and their favourites will be different.

Thus, children never are carbon copies of one another.

There are three different general personality types and for each, an option to have a boy or a girl.

You cannot have the same child (with identical personality and gender) twice in a single Fate but going to the Orb, you can move forward, saving your life to be accessed again whenever you choose, and remarry the same partner to choose two new children.

The child described as Charismatic with the default name of Sora loves Castella Cake.

Gives you the Recipe for Cheery Castella and Split Mix at Level 6 when you Cook Together and those are highest favourites.

He likes:
Shortcake
Chocolate Cake
Castella Cake
Fruit Smoothie
Mont Blanc

The shy, intellectual girl
Loves:
Bittersweet Hot Cocoa
Chocolate Cake
Chocolate Cookies

The first option for a girl, charismatic with the default name of Hana when she cooks with you will make:
Sunny Castella
Hearty Healthy Drink

What is interesting is that she absolutely hates her own Hearty Healthy Drink!

This is the child with the default name of Umi and he is delightful.  I rejected him initially because I was not overly fond of his hairstyle but when I finally married Kurama, not by any means my first choice of partner, I decided to try all the options I have swerved initially.  Never ignore any option in this game!  They all have their own unique events and generate laughter, or other emotional responses that are worth experiencing.

I have created other posts that are devoted to each of the children.

Other character name meanings:

Kai: seashell, ocean, restoration or recovery

Kurama: associated with Tengu and a specific mountain, the kanji can be ‘saddle horse’

Subaru: to unite, gather together, name of Pleiades constellation

Fubuki: blizzard, snowstorm

Cuilang: from Chinese ‘cui’ to rise and ‘lang’ gentleman

Takumi:  artisan, craftsman, skilled

Ulalaka from Uraraka standard Japanese  denoting sunny, bright, clear, serene

Matsuri: festival

Iroha: coloured leaf
