Rokuzaemon, a Cautionary Tale
It is Year 23, and I just finished exploring some hitherto interactions with Kai and Kurama I never tried before. It greatly surprised me to find that Kurama immensely enjoyed Gossip about Romance. What was no surprise at all was discovering Kai did not enjoy Talking about Work. My Bonding Level is high enough to weather the effect of this unpopular topic, however.
It is mid-winter and I am waiting to have my second child with Mauro before I return to the Orb. On my way home, I see a very old man seated on a bench outside Cuilang’s house reading a book. I suddenly wonder what he is reading and address him.
His name is Rokuzaemon and he speaks first of the beauty of the Autumn Sheine and then tells me he is off to bed as he has an early morning tomorrow.
I realise he must be one of my 30 employees and wonder about his job. I go to the Villager menu to discover that, although he is qualified to be a Journeyman Smith, he somehow is a Miner now. I’m looking through the list to see who took his blacksmith job. To my surprise, no one works now at the Smithy!

He now has been given his original posting but evidently he went walkabout of his own accord to explore the Mines.
The lesson here I suppose is to continue to take an interest in the Villagers and their jobs. I gave up long ago trying to replace the lazy ones with hard works or the heavy eaters with more disciplined ones. I got rid of the Timid ones and the Slackers and then let sleeping dogs lie. I suppose I should glance through the lists at least once a week. The only job that really matters on a daily basis now is ‘Herding’.
